What makes humans tick? Is it the fact that we have so much on our minds and so much stuff to do that we don’t care? Is it the fact that we are just so caught up in society that we don’t want to ask the hard questions? I feel like these are questions that people like Tomas Hobbs, John Locke, and Mencius asked and wanted to figure out. And it all starts with human nature. Human nature makes us who we are. It is a way for us to explain our actions. Think about it, if a person stabs
someone we wonder why they would do that. Well that’s just who he is, it’s the way his mind works.  Human nature makes us what we want to become and all the choices we make is part of are human nature.

I feel that humans have their good points and their bad points but they aren’t swayed one way or another. For example in Mencius’s Man’s Nature is Good he said, “ Human nature is inherently good, just like water flows inherently downhill. There’s no such thing as a person who isn’t good, just as there’s no water that doesn’t flow downhill.” But at the same time he thinks that man (goes for both genders) can be bad but in sections, Years at a time he isn’t always evil. And when he is evil he is cruel and violent. He said they aren’t born evil “their hearts and mired (are) in such different situations.” Mencius believed that humans are mostly good. But he does have reasons for them to be bad. As shown in the quote above. Me personally I completely agree with what he said people are good but what made them become what they are the choices that they had in the past.

But at the same time you have some people like Thomas Hobbes that said that humans are naturally bad. In his piece Leviathan right in the first paragraph he said that “ Nature hath made men so equal in the faculties of body and mind as that, though there be found one man sometimes manifestly stronger in body or of quicker mind than another… for as to the strength or body, the weakest has strength enough to kill the strongest…” what Hobbs is saying is that even if you aren’t the biggest or the strongest. You can still be killed by the weak. So really everybody should be afraid of everybody. With that in mind it shows that he is thinking that people have the will and the thought in their minds that they can kill. Witch makes them relatively bad.

Interesting to think that we might be made good but the chooses we make change who we become. Maybe there is always some part of us that is always good? Me personally I think I’m a nice guy. Do I have times where I want to beat some one up, yes, but that is what sports are for. Hobbes would think that everything I do would be for my self. Maybe that’s right but I don’t ask for anything in return. Who knows why we act the way we do. That is what makes life so fun we never know what will make you happy and you never know what will set you off. Life is a mystery and the way we act is even more of a mystery. And we may ever figure out the answer. But it’s still really fun to think about.
